RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING

Eastern Cape legislation makes provision for the exclusion of certain persons from gambling premises either at their own request or, under certain circumstances, at the request of an interested party. If a person applies to the Board for self exclusion and their names are then added to the Board's list, their names are then circulated to the licence holder from whose premises exclusion is sought and the licence holder must then take reasonable steps to ensure that such persons do not enter any area where gambling takes place.

The Board also has authority to exclude persons at the request of an interested party. This may apply where:
  • the person concerned regularly gambles more than he or she can afford to lose and uses household funds to gamble to the serious detriment of his or her dependants in that the gambling causes the dependants to be deprived of food or shelter;
  • the Board receives a report from a registered psychiatrist or psychologist to the effect that the person concerned suffers from a pathological gambling addiction.
The application forms for a person to apply for self exclusion is the LA30(a) form, whilst the form to apply for exclusion of another person is the LA30(b) form. These forms can be accessed by clicking on the links in this paragraph and can be submitted directly to the Board or to any of the three casinos in the Eastern Cape.
Where a person seeks to be excluded in other provinces as well as the Eastern Cape they can submit one form to the Eastern Cape, requesting the form be sent to other provinces, and the Board will forward copies of the application to the other provinces indicated in the application at no cost to the applicant.
